Prerequisites: draw up the layout plan

Before getting started with the construction of your terrace on stilts, it is necessary to draw up a layout plan which contains the shape of your terrace, its dimensions but also the material necessary for its building: pvc studs for wooden posts, possibly other decking joists, joists, wooden posts 90 x 90 mm, joists, wooden slats. The objective here is to plan and calculate the number of materials that are required.

Ground preparation

Laying a wooden deck on wooden posts requires a stable ground. Thus, we prefer a laying on a concrete slab. If you do not have a concrete screed, it will be mandatory to go through a ground preparation to stabilize your surface.

On a concrete paving or an existing terrace

In this case, installing terrace pedestals for wooden posts does not require additional preparation since your surface is stable and level. Go directly to the installation of adjustable terrace pedestals for wooden posts.

On a rough ground

This step must be carried out if your ground is not loose and stable. The pedestal for wooden post needs to be firmly held to the ground in order to guarantee a solid and secure raised terrace. If your land is raw, land preparation is mandatory. This is to stabilize your floor and to guarantee the safety of your wooden construction.

1/ Tools and materials needed for ground preparation

Few tools are needed to carry out the ground preparation earthwork. Here is the list of everything you need:

  • A cord
  • Stakes
  • A spirit level
  • A shovel
  • A tape measure
  • A mason's rule
  • A geotextile film
  • Crushed gravel
  • Roller compactor

2/ How to prepare the ground

To keep your terrace on stilts as long as possible, only 5 steps are necessary:

  1. Mark out your future terrace and dig 15 cm deep;
  2. Add a geotextile felt to prevent the growth of weeds between the wooden boards;
  3. Cover with crushed gravel: 0/60 mm over 10 cm and 0/4 mm over the top 5 cm;
  4. Compact everything to obtain a flat and loose surface;
  5. Check the flatness of the surface with a spirit level.

Steps for laying a wooden deck on pedestals for YEED posts (formerly Rinno)

1/ Tools and materials needed to install your wooden deck on post pedestals

For this step, you will need a little more material, namely:

  • A bracket
  • A tape measure
  • A spirit level
  • A drill driver
  • A jigsaw/radial saw
  • A hammer
  • A large ruler
  • A cord
  • Stakes
  • Your wooden terrace pedestals for YEED posts
  • 90 x 90 mm posts
  • Wooden or aluminum joists
  • Decking boards
  • Special wooden screws

2/ Accessories for laying a wooden terrace on pedestal for YEED post (formerly Rinno)

Some accessories will be useful to develop your terrace on stilts.

3/ Lay the posts

Once the ground is loose and stable, the pvc pedestals can be placed on the ground without fixing. For a perfect installation, follow your layout plan previously drawn up so as to accommodate the structure without the slightest difficulty.

Once installed, it is necessary to adjust the height of each pedestal to obtain a stable wooden pergola that meets the needs of the site. This adjustment is made using the red adjustment ring on the stud for wooden post.

4/ Install and fix the posts

The wooden post can be positioned at the head of the pedestal. The latter must of course be screwed by 8 screws (2 for each side) to guarantee a solid and secure construction. This step is carried out through the lugs provided for this purpose, located on the 4 sides of the head of the pedestal. All that remains is to add the necessary elements to build your wooden structure!

5/ Lay and fix the joists

Your wooden deck on stilts requires wooden joists which will serve as the foundations for your wooden deck on pvc pedestals. As for a wooden terrace on classic pedestals, your joists will support your wooden coating. Note, it is mandatory to coordinate the essence of your joists with that of your coating. Thus, natural or composite wood, the choice is yours but make sure you coordinate everything as a whole.

6/ Lay and fix the wooden boards

  1. Lay the wooden board coating while starting against a wall. Do not forget to offset 5 mm from the wall to obtain the expansion joint;
  2. Place the boards perpendicular to the joists;
  3. Screw the boards 20 mm from the edge with special decking screws.
